Exploring Bantayan Island 0
Last June 12, 2006 me and my boss from my previous company decided to escape from this noisy City of Cebu and go out of town. Our target destination was the Bantayan Island. A friend of mine told me that this place is quite amazing and relaxing, so I told my boss to try some extra adventure in our life. I do some research over the web about Bantayan Island, but I found nothing during that time, since the internet is still not really popular in promoting tourism. We just take a risk in going to this unfamiliar place.
We traveled from 6:00 in the morning by an air-conditioning bus going to Hagnaya, north of Cebu. On our way to Hagnaya, we found a lot of different places and amazing animals. I still remember when we saw a white cow with a black spot on the back. We arrived at Hagnaya around 12:00 noon and promptly rode the barge on the way to Bantayan Island. The barge ride only cost around Php20 on that time.
Upon arrival, an islander welcomed us and guides us in our tour, I asked him that we still don’t have a hotel to stay in, he immediately brought us to the nearest hotel around the pier, but we found it too small for us to stay in. He then decided to bring us to Maia’s Beach resort wherein we found very spacious cottages that would be enough for our stay. The resort is so clean and very exclusive, only a few visitors are checking in. The room is worth only Php1, 400 a night, good for two people inclusive of breakfast.
We check-in to our room immediately and rushed to the seashore and took a lot of pictures. The beach is not really so smooth. It was rocky but the water is so clear. After getting tired, we ordered seafood and pasta from the restaurant. The food was really great. I cannot even compare it to any food that I have tried in the city, and even my boss loves it. We enjoy the two-day Bantayan escapade by going into some island hopping and kayaking. Until now I still want to visit the Island again maybe with my love ones this time, not my boss or my office mates.
