Carcar is the Little Marikina in Cebu 1

Have you ever seen a giant leather shoe? Unbelievable? It’s true. And it is found in one of the towns in Cebu—Carcar. Carcar is the Little Marikina in Cebu. It is the 2nd shoe capital in the Philippines, first is Marikina City in Luzon. The city is famous for its quality made shoes, sandals, slippers and espadrilles. It is also famous for ampao (rice crispies), bucarillo and chicharon.

Carcar is the Little Marikina in Cebu

Just yesterday, my boyfriend and I travelled to Carcar. I am selling espadrilles and my supplier lives in Carcar, and I have to go to their house to get my orders. So at exactly 2’o clock in the afternoon, we rode a jeep going to the south bus terminal. When we arrived at the terminal, there were lots of people waiting for the buses to arrive. Most of them are construction workers who live in Carcar but work in Cebu City. Since it was a weekend, a lot of them are going home to their towns.

My boyfriend and I were in the front seats, and I am right next to the driver with my legs crossed. I was uncomfortable with how I was seated. My whole body was only allowed to move to the right where my boyfriend is. I also disliked the smell of the smoke coming from the driver’s cigarette. But well, I had to endure all of those to be able to get my orders.

The travel took about 2 hours. It was a bit traffic along the streets of Talisay and Minglanilla. I fell asleep along the way, since I haven’t slept since Friday night. I am a night owl, and my job is in the graveyard shift. The music of the bus kept the mood of the travel. Most of the songs are love songs, which also triggered my sleepiness. Before we can reach Carcar, we have to go along towns. It was like five towns before Carcar – Cebu, Talisay, Minglanilla, Naga and San Fernando.

After two hours, we finally arrived at Acacia Grill, Carcar. We then meet our supplier and then rode a bus again for Cebu. It was a tiring trip I must say, but it was all worth it. Do you want to see my espadrilles :) ?
