Camiguin – Scuba Diving and Outdoor Adventure 0
There are a lot of workable tourist attractions in Camiguin. The annual Lanzones festival is the most visited, but the hot springs and the white sandy beaches always have new sets of visitors every day. In addition to these rosters of beautiful places, Camiguin has yet more to offer.
The Sunken Cemetery is marked by a huge cross that stands on a concrete floor right at the spot where the old capital of Camiguin once stood. The nearby volcanic vents of Mount Vulcan unleashed a catastrophic eruption in 1862 where the people who tried to delude the heavily falling ashes and rocks and ran to the sea. Unfortunately, the destructive power of the volcano was enough to submerge both the people and the city into the ocean.

It was recorded that 326 people died in the eruption. Today, a huge cross is made to honor those people whose lives were taken away by the event. Some local fishermen offer rentals of their small pumped boats for people who wished to come near the cross and see what is beneath it. But I’ve seen the cross in a sunset, and it was a stunning view. A silhouette of the cross, a setting sun behind it and an orange sky to top them over is an unbelievable moment.
It is also remarkable that in spite of Camiguin’s offer for good relaxation, there are also activities in the island which are really of great worth to its tourism as well. Actually, Camiguin has a lot of trekking trails to start with or if the tourist wants more action, biking. Over the high mountains of the island, there are pathways made for those people who wished to do that kind of activities. Not only it offers new adventures to tourists. It also provides an overall view of the island and the surrounding waters. There are certain spots in the trails that give a view of the sunken cemetery and the white island like the picture at the left.

Camiguin is not all about the ocean and mountains alone. One ecstatic attraction of the island is the Katibawasan falls which showcase a thin cascading water about 250 feet high. A good place for a cool dip and the surrounding floras are made up of many wild plants like ground orchids and pitcher plants. The thin stream of falling water creates a clear blue-green basin at the foot that waters the surrounding flora.
